Lilian Medland was born in London around 1880. She lived a privileged upbringing with many travel opportunities allowing her to sketch where ever she happened to be. Her delicate drawings and water colour paintings are an accurate and exquisite account of the numerous bird breeds she encounted.

After marriage and children, her family emigrated to Australia where a wider world of birds awaited her talent. I encourage bird lovers or lovers of fine art to grap a copy of 'Seen but not heard' by Christobel Mattingley dedicated to the work of Lilian Medland.
