Introducing the highly endangered and unique Przewalski's horse, 'Equus ferns przewalski'. Found in Mongolia the Przewalski's horse is the last breed of wild horse never domesticated. This horse once ranged across parts of Europe and central Asia. In the 1960's the species was classified extinct in the wild until a mature adult was found and then classified as critically endangered. In 2012 there were estimated to be more than 50 in the wild. Now classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Przewalski's horse typically inhabit grassy deserts and plains in Western Mongolia. It's Mongolian name is Takhi meaning spirit.
I first discovered Przewalski's horse on a visit to the Werribee Open Range Zoo and so wanted to learn more through sketches and painting.

The stunning Przewalski's horse in it's natural habitat above and my final painting in water colour and pencil below.
