It doesn't matter if your journey is just getting started or your've been at it for years, keeping a sketchbook of your ideas, observations and studies of themes or inspirations is a great tool that can effectively be used as a starting point for new artwork. My sketch book is messy and sometimes unorganised with drawings, water colour and other medium tests. But it's a beginning that could become your guide to that final artwork you can proudly share with the world. Here are some of my sketch book study examples:

(Above and Below) Study in water colour and graphite pencil of the New Guinea Blue Weevil.

(Above) Field study in ink and colour pencil of the Pacific black duck with pines located in
it's environment.

(Above) Study in colour pencil - inside shell of the New Zealand green lipped mussell.
